Happy March everyone!
Bratislava is a little confused as to what it should be doing with itself right now. Last week, it snowed almost every night (which made walking to school, through a foot of snow, really crazy!), but today the snow is almost completely melted and I hear birds singing. My family tells me that Colorado has blooming flowers, and I can only hope that the grey days of winter are almost over! (I bet you Minnesotans are SOO there too! :)
I am hunkering down for the long month until Easter. We just took our spring break, and I had the opportunity to travel to GREECE with eleven other teachers! Whoa: it was amazing. The list of activities includes a scavenger hunt, amazing food and outdoor markets, living in the ghetto, sight-seeing, Gustav getting banned from the Acropolis, and becoming restaurant entertainment!

One of my favorite memories from the trip included being hustled into a restaurant, Greek singers, microphones, and an idea. Our scavenger hunt included all sorts of fun tasks to complete while in Greece. For example:
About an hour into our restaurant experience, a Greek band showed up and started playing! There were two guys: a guitar player and a dulcimer player, and a women who had an amazing voice. We were enjoying our food, wine, and music, the restaurante started getting crowded with people, and I had an idea: I'd never sang for a restaurant of people before! Ah-ha!
I threw out my idea - to sing for the restaurant - to my colleagues, who thought I was crazy at first (this should not be news this far into the year), but they humoured me and we picked the song Save Tonight, by Eagle Eye Cherry as 1. a song we all knew 2. a song we thought Greeks might know cause we heard it on the radio 3. a song Jon could play on the guitar. We laughed, planned...and then, the big moment came: I stood up from the table.
I went up to the lady, and asked if "my friends and I could use your microphones and sing a song, in English, for the restaurant?" She looked at me, conferred with the two guys, and said "Ok!" I couldn't believe it! I took the microphone, and then realized that I was all by myself! I coaxed Jon, Dan, and Amy to the stage with me, and we sang for the restaurant! I spent a whole week in Greece with these two crazy guys!
This was right after Gustav was banned from the Acropolis! Yes: banned.
